Alles im Lot? Im knapp 90-minütigen Kurzfilmprogramm „Balanceakt“ der Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg zeigt sich, dass es manchmal gar nicht so einfach ist, das Gleichgewicht zu halten. Das belegen vor allem die Animationsfilme: Eine Seilbahnfahrt läuft aus dem Ruder, eine Kuh wünscht sich als Teil eines Mobiles mehr Nähe zu den anderen Tieren, und ein liebeskranker Kater gerät immer wieder in tödliche Unfälle. Aber wozu hat man denn neun Leben? Auch als Kugeltier hat man natürlich gewisse Standschwierigkeiten. Aber auch reale Extremsituationen können einen aus dem Gleichgewicht bringen: Zwei Arbeiter verbringen hoch über der Stadt auf einem Stahlträger ihre Pause, ein junger Mann eröffnet seiner Freundin, dass er HIV-positiv ist, eine Gruppe von Polarforschern steckt seit Tagen in einem erbarmungslosen Schneesturm am Nordpol fest, und ein kontaktscheuer Mann entwickelt Angstfantasien, weil er gezwungen ist, einen Heizungsmonteur anzurufen. Two male, glowing creatures start a fight over trying to impress a female. Each one of them wants to win her over by giving a better light show than his competitor. "Shine"' is a visual love story showing the importance of healthy competition. The film shows that it is not always the strongest, fastest or most attractive that wins as sometimes it is the inner light that shines the brightest. The film brings a fresh perspective to the age-old story of men vying for the love of a beautiful woman, however in this instance, the men are two furry creatures who battle with the power of self-illumination. The battle to glow brightest is intense and the combat fierce. They are on fire... until one gets burned! Für einen kurzen Moment sehen wir das Mädchen in Zeitlupe fliegen, es scheint vor der Plattformkante zu schweben. Dann sehen wir eine Weite - das Becken ist leer. - A girl on a diving tower. Little feet venture very slowly forward towards the edge. A look down. Hesitate. The approach to jump, a deep breath. She dares, jumps off. For a brief moment we see the girl fly in slow motion, it seems to float in front of the platform edge. Then we see a distance - the basin is empty. Fabienne und Lukas nehmen euch mit auf einen Rundgang durch die FABW: ihr besucht das Ade Studio, das Kino Caligari, die Schnitträume und werft einen Blick ins Techniklager und das Tonstudio. Und dabei geben euch die beiden einen Einblick in den Studienalltag mit vielen handfesten Informationen und ein bisschen Gossip. Alles leider nur virtuell, denn im Corona-Jahr 2020 ist nichts so, wie wir es kennen - leere Gänge, leere Räume und ein leerer Akademiehof... Dennoch freuen wir uns, euch wenigstens online etwas über unsere Filmhochschule erzählen zu können und wer weiß, vielleicht sehen wir uns ja doch bald. Im Rahmen des Hollywood-Workshop Los Angeles erhielten sechs Studierende der Filmakademie das Baden-Württemberg STIPENDIUM für Filmproduktion der Baden-Württemberg Stiftung. Weiteren sechs Studierenden aus dem Bereich Produktion eröffnete die Verwertungsgesellschaft für Nutzungsrechte an Filmwerken (VGF) die Möglichkeit, bis zu vier Wochen im Zentrum der amerikanischen Filmindustrie zu verbringen. Der Workshop findet an der UCLA (University of California Los Angeles) statt. Das mit Exkursionen, Insidervorträgen und Workshops voll gepackte Programm gibt Einblicke in die Arbeitsweise amerikanischer Studios, der Studienplan wird von der UCLA in Zusammenarbeit mit der Filmakademie erarbeitet. Die Lehrkräfte kommen aus führenden Studios und Produktionsfirmen, TV-Sendern und der UCLA.
