Well, with the use of chaos emeralds in terms of story, it could be used as world building in the case of Unleashed the gaia are used as power source for the sections of earth and having Sonic and Chip to have a world adventure having the duo explore different lands and cultures, and in Frontiers its same as unleashed with world building in starfall island and and as well as having a mysterious backstory on where they actually came from.

I know this came out before Sonic Frontiers released, ...I think, but there is one thing I wanna say since this vid is about the Chaos Emeralds so hear me out on this. Also spoilers for Frontiers inbound so watch out for that I guess:
I refuse to believe that the Chaos Emeralds are just space rocks, it feels like the most laziest and underwhelming explanation for the Emeralds power and I just hate it. Also the Master Emerald is still native to earth despite all that, so on top of being lazy the explanation also barely makes sense on it's own?! I really hope it's revealed that Emeralds were passed down in between planets or something like that and are given a better origin than what we got because it just sounds so stupid, have them made by gods or something I don't care! Say... maybe that's why The End could be destroying those planets, because they had the Emeralds at that given time, Maybe The End wants them or wants to make sure they stay out of use?
Man said the chaos emeralds in frontiers is to regain his memories. No the cyberspace has the memories of the ancients stored in it and thatβs why the flashbacks happen. Sonic Frontiers is the only good story weβve had (not great but at least good) since Unleashed
first the chaos emerald stories are the best. second, it was essential to have the chaos emeralds in frontiers. sonic isn't collecting the emeralds to get his memories back at all. he needs them to defeat the Titians in the game sonic tries to defeat giganto by himself with his own power and then gets thrown like a baseball. He can't face off against the titians which are powered by chaos energy without the emeralds themselves. also you can't have a game that explains the origin of the chaos emeralds without the chaos emeralds. so yeah nativefall this claim that the chaos emeralds have a problem is really wrong.

Before even watching I have a problem with Chaos Emeralds, they are now used as a story plot armor, rather than a reward, you HAVE to collect the emeralds to finish the game, unlike the original games.

I think the next Sonic should explore more McGuffin Jewels similar to Phantom Ruby, or Master Emerald like a New Jewel gave Sonic a New Ability that Super Sonic can't do.
